Classic British gameshow Blockbusters is the latest show to make a TV comeback, according to reports.

The cult classic – originally hosted by Bob Holness – has had several revivals during its time, most recently fronted by Simon Mayo in 2012.

And now Thames TV, the makers of Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, are reportedly on board to put the trivia show back on the box next year.

A source told The Sun: “It’s been the year of the revival with classic shows including The Price Is Right, Generation Game and It’ll Be Alright On The Night all making a comeback.

“Now Thames TV has decided it’s the right time to bring back Blockbusters. It’s just one of those feel-good shows that has a special place in a lot of people’s hearts.”

The insider added that it was “still early days” but the theme tune and format are set to stay the same.

Discussing the news on today’s Good Morning Britain, Richard Arnold joked about the show not yet having a host and did a “screen test” right there and then with a quick game.

Posing the questions – which correspond to lettered hexagons – Arnold guided Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins to victory, joking that it’s “the closest he’ll get to the graphics”.

But fans are already on board with the idea of the showbiz reporter in the hosting seat, backing him for the call next year.

One wrote: “Richard you'd be great presenting Blockbusters, as great as you do presenting Entertainment on best in morning TV GMB.”

While another said: “I'd love @RichardAArnold to present the new #blockbusters @GMB #GMB.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
