Child Genius 2017 final: what to expect from the last round of the kids’ quiz

One brainy kid is about to be crowned winner
Channel 4

Another controversial series of Child Genius is drawing to a close – there have been been cheating scandals, the usual pushy parent criticisms, tears, times tables and plenty of super-smart kids.

After battling through history rounds, memory tests and maths quizzes it’s time for the brainiest of the bunch to face off in the final.

Here’s what to expect from the closing round.

What will the children have to do to win?

The final will consist of two stages – first the competitors will show off their degree-level knowledge of a specialist subject of their choice.

The topics are Edward Jenner: Medical Innovation and Methodology in the late 18th Century, Pre-Socratic Philosophy, Military Campaigns of the Yellow Turban Rebellion - 184-205 CE, Martin Luther King Jr, and London in 1666: Society, Politics and the Urban Environment in the Year of the Great Fire.

Then the two highest scoring contestants from the specialist round will go head to head in a quick fire buzzer quiz and whoever gets the most points will be crowned Child Genius 2017.

What does the winner receive?

The biggest and best TV shows of 2017

1/10

Rather than money or a lifetime’s supply of Rubik’s Cubes, the winner of Child Genius receives a giant trophy that’s almost bigger than they are. Oh and the ability to tell everyone they meet that they’re a certified child prodigy.

When is it on?

The final of Child Genius airs Saturday, August 19 at 8pm on Channel 4.
