Singer Sarah Ikumu will be participating in the live final of Britain’s Got Talent after being chosen as the judges’ wildcard act.

Originally Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer act, the show’s creator made no attempt to disguise his disappointment at Ikumu’s shock exit from the competition.

After a tough semi-final, the singer lost out to fusion pianist Tokio Myers and child comedian Ned Woodman, despite her take on Prince's Purple Rain receiving a standing ovation from the judging panel.

But after the judges expressed their surprise at her departure, many speculated that she would return to perform in the final as the wildcard act.

Cowell said Ikumu “genuinely deserved” to make it to the final stage of the competition:

“There was only one person we felt genuinely deserved to be in the final this year, and we made the right decision”

Ikumu joins DNA, Kyle Tomlinson, Issy Simpson, Matt Edwards, Tokio Myers, Ned Woodman , Mersey Girls, The Pensionalities, Daliso Chaponda, Missing People Choir in Saturday’s live final which will see one act crowned winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2017.

The successful act will perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance and receive a £250,000 prize.
