Jason Burrill survived seven weeks and fought off 17 contestants to be crowned the winner of Big Brother 2016.

The actor beat the odds to become the oldest housemate ever to win the reality TV show.

Jason - who had a rough ride in the house after booting out Lateysha Grace - fought off tough competition from Evelyn Ellis, Jayne Connery, Andy West, Jackson Blyton and runner-up Hughie Maughan.

He walks away with the £70,000 prize fund and the extra £20,000 he swiped during Annihilation Week.

Speaking about his win he said: "I didn't think I'd be here from day one."

Jason, who was thrown in with ex-girlfriend Charlie, said it was tough having "no control over life in there" and joked that he was sorry for smashing a door in a Diary Room meltdown.

Jason also took the opportunity to apologise for evicting Lateysha. "I'm sorry to [Lateysha]. I take responsibilty for not getting to know her better," he said.

Addressing reports that he was a game player he said: "If I was going to target someone as a game I would have taken Alex or Hughie out."

Jason's dramatic win shocked viewers who tweeted their disappointment at the outcome.

One user posted: "That's b*******! How the f*** did Jason win big brother! #bbuk @bbuk."

Another wrote: "I have never been more angry with the British public! Why? Why did Jason win? Argh ffs #BBUK #BigBrotherFinal #BigBrother."

But bookmakers favourite Hughie told Willis that he was "happy" to see Jason win.

Jackson rounded off the top three and spoke about his budding relationship with ex-housemate Georgina Cantwell. Speaking to Willis he said: "I love her. In there a day is like a month or two. I saw the best and worst in Georgina and the best outweighed the worst. We're like Lady and the Tramp. She was adorable to me. I became in awe of her. I made a lot of promises to her in the house. I want to treat her."

Girl power: Evelyn Ellis and Jayne Connery
Channel 5

Despite housemates proclaiming Andy to be the most deserving winner, the former BBC journalist was voted out in fourth place.

Speaking about his time in the famous reality TV home, he said: “People got me wrong and they wouldn’t let go of it. If you stay true to yourself that’s the best way to get friends and the ones you lose along the way weren’t worth it.”

Evelyn was booted out in fifth place and left the house with Jayne Connery - who joked she survived drowning during her stint - in sixth.

Celebrity Big Brother starts on Channel 5 at 9pm.
