Alistair Petrie has revealed a second series of BBC drama The Night Manager is a possibility.

Petrie, 45 - who played Sandy Langbourne in the popular Sunday night series - said a second season has not been ruled out, despite his co-stars Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie suggesting otherwise.

Speaking to Standard Online he said: "There are so many factors that will determine [a second series]. Is it possible? Yes, I think it is. But it is genuinely a case of wait and see."

Petrie’s comments come weeks after Laurie appeared to dismiss the idea of a second series, saying: “It’s based on a novel. We’ve got to the end of the novel and John le Carre has yet to write another novel, so in cold practical terms, no, we’re done.”

Petrie said he would love to reprise his role as Richard Roper's wing man but said there are some who believe it should remain as a one series drama.

"There’s two schools of thought," he said. "Of course I would love to do more and a lot of people would love to do more. One would love to revisit those characters.

"But there is equally an argument saying it went down so well as a one piece event. If push came to shove I’d love to do more. I’d love to work with the team all over again."

The popular series pulled in on average six million viewers per episode and sent social media into a frenzy when Hiddleston flashed his naked behind during a sex scene with Elizabeth Debicki.

Speaking about the famous scene, Petrie - who said he failed to notice that Hiddleston had “dropped his trousers” - described it as “refreshing” to see people talking about the male anatomy as opposed to a female’s.

“I saw that episode and I genuinely didn’t notice that he’d dropped his trousers,” he said. “Then of course it was little hard to avoid after that. He clearly made a lot of people happy. But I would argue the fact that in a love scene people were talking about the bloke’s backside rather than Elizabeth’s chest, and I think that’s fabulous and refreshing.”
