Winslet wanted by West End

10 April 2012

Titanic actress Kate Winslet is the Hollywood star theatre buffs most want to see gracing the West End stage, a survey found today.

She beat big names such as Tom Hanks and Al Pacino as the person audiences want to follow in the footsteps of a long list of screen stars who have decided to tread the boards in London.

Theatre website whatsonstage.com found that Nicole Kidman and Kevin Spacey are the stars that would be most welcome back. The poll was timed to tie in with US stars Woody Harrelson and Kyle MacLachlan making their West End stage debut this evening in On An Average Day.

Whatsonstage.com director Terri Paddock said: "Actors have got to have stage presence as well as star status or, in the long run, they'll turn people off theatre rather than on."
