Glenn joins stars at the show

Woody Harrelson's old belle Glenn Close was at the Comedy Theatre to see his impressive West End premiere alongside Sex And The City's Kyle MacLachlan.

Ms Close, who next month will star in A Streetcar Named Desire at the National Theatre, is understood to have had a brief fling with Harrelson 11 years ago. The pair have remained friends and last night she changed seats to sit by his wife of four years, Laura Louie, and their two daughters. MacLachlan and Harrelson received a standing ovation from an audience which included Hugh Grant, John Hurt and Keith Allen.

Afterwards Grant said: "I'm not normally a theatre person but I've come along because Kyle and I are golf friends. Although the gunshots in the performance shocked me - I have a hearing problem and can't stand loud noises - I thought it was a great performance from Kyle and Woody."

Ms Close said she thought the play was "very good". Hurt added: "It really was excellent acting. The play itself was perhaps a little bit long for what it had to say but I thought the actors were brilliant." MacLachlan, who sported a bruised eye from a performance of his fight scene with Harrelson last weekend, said: "It's been a wonderful experience doing this play. I don't think anyone expected this response from the audience tonight. It's very satisfying."

Mr Harrelson said: "I was very nervous tonight but I controlled my adrenalin and it seemed to go very well. And, man, I love Kyle - I thought he was amazing."

The pair are considering transferring the production to New York if they can act together in the lead roles.
