Virtually famous: Radkey

Missouri brothers Dee, Isaiah and Solomon have a fast, raw, punk rock style and have been supporting Drenge on a UK tour
11 October 2013

With the three sisters of Haim sitting in the No 1 album spot this week, our work in that particular hype department is done, so let's have a look at the Radkey brothers from Missouri. Teenagers Dee, Isaiah and Solomon owe their existence as a band to their father Matt, who first homeschooled them – making them suitably weird, they’ve said – and now works as their manager.

Their punk rock style is fast, raw and very heavy, but stands out thanks to Dee’s often casual croon, draped languidly over the top. There’s also the fact that they’re black, still unusual among bands with their sound, though they don’t make much of it except on their song N.I.G.G.A. (Not Okay). They’ve been supporting Drenge on a UK tour with a headline slot in a Camden pub next week, when their latest EP is also released.
