There is no drought of weepy men with acoustic guitars in this country, which of course means there’s an ongoing appetite for the poor dears, as shown by Ben Howard’s Brits triumph earlier this year. Next in line is this bespectacled 25-year-old from New Malden, newly signed to Parlophone Records and with his first major label song, Nothing Stays the Same, unveiled on Radio 1 a few days ago. While his voice and finger-picking style isn’t unique, the layers he creates with background vocals help to set him apart in a crowded field. Next year we’ll see if he’s meek enough to inherit the earth.
