Jack Savoretti – Sleep No More: ‘Urgent and impassioned songwriting’

The Anglo-Italian songwriter seems certain to consolidate his belated success
Versatile: Jack Savoretti is back with Sleep No More
Andre Paine28 October 2016

Touted as the next big thing more than a decade ago, Anglo-Italian songwriter Jack Savoretti walked away from a lucrative record contract over creative differences and almost gave up on music.

Savoretti’s sacrifice might seem a bit pointless given that he’s ended up singing romantic ballads like I’m Yours on his fifth album.

But the wilderness years have left their mark on his urgent, impassioned songwriting for this rich and varied record.

You can hear that bloody-minded tenacity in his gravelly vocal on Sleep No More, its whistling spaghettiwestern sound hinting at his Italian origins.

He’s a versatile singer who can switch from the slick rock of Start Living in the Moment to the autumnal folk of Lullaby Loving.

Having finally reached the top 10 last year, Savoretti seems certain to consolidate his belated success.
