Five tracks to hear this week (June 9-15)

Persistent hitmakers: Major Lazer
David Smyth9 June 2017

Ahead of the 20th anniversary reissue of their somewhat popular OK Computer album, Radiohead have put a video on their website for a previously unreleased song from that era, I Promise. It’s a long time since the band have sounded so straightforward and emotional.

Arcade Fire have collaborated with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk on the title track from next month’s new album, Everything Now, and it’s come out sounding like Dancing Queen. The video is online now.

Benjamin Clementine, the Mercury Prize-winner and recent Gorillaz collaborator, has put a new song and video on YouTube and it’s not for the faint-hearted. At six-and-a-half minutes, featuring harpsichord, haunted whooping, a namecheck for rice pudding and a lovely piano interlude in the middle, it suggests his next album will be hugely ambitious.

Persistent hitmakers Major Lazer are back with a new single, Know No Better, on YouTube now. It features their usual extensive line-up of contributors (Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo this time) and a summery sound that will no doubt be heard from a large number of open car windows this month.

Just before their Glastonbury headline slot, Foo Fighters have released a fierce new single, Run – an indication that a new album must be on the way. You can see the band as hard rocking pensioners in the video online now.
