Kew Gardens has been transformed into an open air art gallery with a new display of glass sculptures.

American artist Dale Chihuly has filled the London landmark with examples of his work from throughout his 50-year career.

Dozens of coloured glass sculptures have been installed on site with work on show in Kew’s newly restored Temperate House, by the Palm House Lake and in its own gallery of botanical art.

Chihuly, whose work is on show in galleries around the world, did a show in Kew more than a decade ago and said he was “excited” to see his work on display in the gardens again.

He said: “I am honoured to bring my work once again to Kew, with its magnificent landscape and extraordinary glasshouses--structures which have always captivated me.”

Ken’s Director of Marketing Sandra Botterell said: “Thirteen years ago, Kew Gardens was home to Dale Chihuly’s last major outdoor show in Europe. It was one of the most popular exhibitions ever held at Kew, and the return of the work of this master of glass is causing palpable excitement.

“Bold and beautiful, surreal and seductive, these large-scale art works will stimulate the imaginations of all who view them. Prepare to see Kew – and nature – in a wholly different way.”
