Cate Blanchett is supposedly in talks with Gearbox to sign on for the film adaptation of Borderlands.

According to Variety, Lady Galadriel herself is reportedly eyeing up the role of Lilith, the Siren class character from the very first game.

While this casting hasn't been confirmed by Lionsgate, Gearbox – the developers of the Borderlands franchise – has already sown the seeds about the potential hire after tweeting about Blanchett playing Lilith.

Gearbox said that it is 'incredibly excited' about the possibility of having the Australian actor sign on to play the part.

The Borderlands film was initially announced by Lionsgate in 2015 and until last year there was no more news regarding it.

However, earlier this year it was revealed that horror director Eli Roth, who directed films such as Cabin Fever and Death Wish, would be helming the Borderlands film adaptation.

It'll be interesting if the film turns out to be anything other than just a Mad Max-esque film, as people will no doubt recognise the clear similarities between the two if you've played the games.

At the moment, we don't know if the Borderlands film will focus on the first, second or third game in the series, but fan speculation is rife.
