After 33 years of waiting, Tom Cruise has finally revealed the trailer for a Top Gun sequel.
The actor, who will reprise his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the upcoming film, surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con to present the first glimpse.
“I was always asked: ‘When are you going to do another one?’,” the 57-year-old Cruise said. “Well, you’ve been very patient with me. I felt like it was my responsibility to really deliver for you.”
The trailer for Top Gun: Maverick has now been released worldwide, featuring breathtaking aerial acrobatics and — of course — cameos for the famous bomber jacket and aviator sunglasses from the 1986 film.
We’re first introduced to a high-ranking Air Force official, played by Ed Harris, who questions Maverick on his refusal to climb up the ranks from Captain to Admiral.
“Why is that?” Harris’ character asks.
“It’s one of life’s great mysteries, Sir,” Maverick replies.

The film is expected to explore Maverick’s struggles with the ever-changing world of aviation, including the rise of drones.
It will also feature Miles Teller, playing the son of Goose — a character from the first film — who becomes Maverick’s new protege.
Val Kilmer returns as Iceman, while there will be turns from John Hamm, Glenn Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Jay Ellis.
The original Top Gun film was a box office smash, generating more than $350 million at the box office — well over $800 million in today’s money.
Joseph Kosinski, who worked alongside Cruise on the 2013 sci-fi thriller Oblivion, will direct Top Gun: Maverick. It will arrive in UK cinemas on July 17 2020.
