Peter Segal’s boxing comedy stars Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro as two old-timers seduced by a big fat pay cheque
24 January 2014

Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro play two old-timers seduced by a big fat pay cheque. How apt. Peter Segal’s boxing comedy boasts a few spry knowing gags but is basically a shameless attempt to cash in on the heat still generated by Rocky and Raging Bull. One-time Pittsburgh rivals "Razor" (Stallone) and "The Kid" (De Niro) are persuaded back into the ring by a jive-talking promoter (Kevin Hart, irritating).

Instantly, Razor’s manager (Alan Arkin), formerly at death’s door, becomes the best goddamn trainer on the block, while The Kid gets the better of a sneering young upstart (LL Cool J). We also get long-lost girlfriends (Kim Basinger), long-lost sons, even a long-lost grandson. And lots of jokes about how real men don’t like anal probes. Real fans won’t be impressed.
