Those who have been lucky enough to see the latest Avengers movie have been told only one thing – please don't spoil the Endgame.

Across Twitter and Instagram, Avengers fans have been begging the lucky few to keep quiet about the film's plot with hashtag #DontSpoilTheEndgame picking up pace ahead of it's release in the UK today.

The pleas from fans follow hot on the heels of a similar one from directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who recently wrote an open letter in which they asked “the greatest fans in the world” not to “spoil [the film for others],” using the same hashtag.

They wrote: “When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you.”

They concluded the letter with a reference to the film’s villain, Thanos, writing: “Remember, Thanos still demands your silence.”

Fans of the Marvel franchise have had to wait for an entire year to see Endgame and it's set to be an epic, clocking in at an impressive three hours and two minutes long.

The latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe closes the book on the first 11 and 22 films of the franchise, ending the cliffhanger of Infinity War in which half of humanity was turned to ash at the hands of supervillain Thanos.

It had its world premiere on Monday night, and plot details have been kept tightly under wraps with those who've seen the film remaining tight-lipped about what to expect.

That said, Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo has hinted that fans will be left “grieving”.

“I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm speaking out of turn but I think people are going to be grieving. And they're going to be hopeful,” he said at the premiere.

However, this hasn't stopped Twitter exploding with nervous energy as fans try to avoid spoilers.

One Twitter user took some drastic measures, muting any related words that could giveaway key details.

Another fan urged people to be more like Dr Strange, who predicted the future in Infinity War.

Others called upon the spirit of Stan Lee to keep the plot quiet.

Avengers: Endgame is available to see in UK cinemas now.
