Hot Tickets - Weekend comedy

Hard working: Jimmy Carr
5 April 2012

Here are the biggest comedy gigs in the capital this weekend..

Jimmy Carr
Despite being a ubiquitous face on television, Carr is also one of the hardest-gigging stand-ups in the land. His rolling Laughter Therapy tour returns to the suburbs with endless one-liners, rude cartoons and an encore that tests taste limits. Best of all, you don't get Carr's infuriating TV laugh onstage.
Sat Aug 13, Fairfield Halls, Croydon (020 8688 9291, fairfield.co.uk)

Tim Minchin
Comedy's ever-growing influence breaks further boundaries with the first Comedy Prom. Minchin will be donning his tuxedo to front this gig that should showcase his inventive, witty songs with added orchestral backing. Plus comedian-turned-conductor Sue Perkins and further mirth and melodies from Kit and the Widow.
Sat Aug 13, Royal Albert Hall, SW7 (0845 401 5045, royalalberthall.com)

Doug Stanhope
American dissident Stanhope continues to give the Edinburgh Fringe the cold shoulder by doing his month in London. He is a quite brilliantly sour comedian, as critical of his own failings as he is of society's flaws. Whether fulminating about celebrity culture or his bowel movements, Stanhope is always interesting and will undoubtedly have strong views on the UK's recent turbulent events.
Until Sept 3, Leicester Square Theatre (0844 873 3433, )
