Mullet-haired Paul Foot has been ploughing the same quirky furrow for nearly a decade and while he has not changed, the comedy world might finally be catching up with him. With Russell Brand and Noel Fielding making eccentricity hip, Foot's postmodern lunatic fringe could be on the verge of a breakthrough.
Underneath the bizarre coiffure there is an engaging oddball brain at play, specialising in distracted, fey exasperation. His general bemusement is both recognisable and nicely off-kilter, as he wonders whether anyone has ever used the computer scroll lock key and asks why space bars are so big.
When not irate about technology he is irritated by other people. Why does anyone work hard at Sudoku: "Who checks?" Why does everyone comment on home-made gateaux being moist?
Just as you think you have a handle on him, he attacks the funny bone from an utterly obtuse angle, imagining tiny humans living inside cakes.
You have to buy into Foot's wigged-out world to get full value and it may not instantly be to everyone's taste, but then it took time for the similarly offbeat Mighty Boosh to conquer Planet Comedy. Cult stardom could be a hair's breadth away.
