Not on the Label by Felicity Lawrence
William Leith5 December 2013

Felicity Lawrence is a food investigator, and she’s superb. She finds out where our food comes from and what it’s actually made of. This can be horrifying. It can make you feel queasy. In this re-issued book she has added a brilliant section on the horsemeat scandal. She’s explained it all — the economics of beef, and supermarkets, the food processing companies that supply the supermarkets , the way cheap burgers are made and the pressure to make them cheaper. Then she explains how horses entered the picture. She’s also excellent on chicken, vegetables and ready meals.
