Rangers bid comes under scrutiny

A takeover bid for Rangers FC came a step closer today.

An independent committee of directors is studying proposals from property tycoon Andrew Ellis who is leading a consortium which could bid £33 million for the controlling stake Sir David Murray has in the club heading the Scottish Premier League.

Any deal would need Lloyds Bank's backing as it is owed nearly £30 million by Rangers.
