Were you a victim of the Canary Wharf tube crush or just feeling the heat on your commute as the temperatures rise?

Well a 99p minicab offer could solve your problems so you can spend the rest of your time snapping up this week's other top deals.

Cab it for less than a quid

Londoners can get minicab rides for 99p this week. The offer comes from a ride-sharing app that has just been launched.

SPLYT claims to offer savings of up to 40% on fares if you share a journey with another passenger.

To book a 99p minicab ride, download the app from www.justsplyt.com, and register to get a promo code. The offer runs until Sunday.

Cinema on the cheap

Users of moneysaving website HotUKDeals have worked out that you need to spend only a couple of pounds to get access to CompareTheMarket’s 2-4-1 cinema tickets offer.

Just go to comparethemarket.com and buy a single UK travel insurance policy for a day.

Some say quotes start from as little as £1.37 while others have been charged more than £2, which may reflect costs for older people.

Freebie from EE

Those looking to sign up to EE’s new free Power Bar can do so from Thursday.

Then mobile customers should text POWER to 365 to get a unique code which they need to take into an EE store to pick up a free, portable smartphone charger.

Broadband customers, meanwhile, should text JOIN plus their EE landline number to 60005 and follow the instructions provided. Texts cost 35p.

Beware of false economies

Deepak Tailor of LatestFreeStuff.co.uk, reckons people are so keen to grab a bargain they’ve forgotten to work out the real cost.

“For instance, baking your own bread may not save you anything,” he says. “The cost of ingredients means it is often more expensive than buying a loaf.”

Other false economies can include cheap petrol. “Driving five miles to get fuel for 1p a litre less uses more petrol in an average car than you’d save filling the tank,” he points out.
