Londoners spend twice as much online, study shows

Londoners fork out more than twice the amount of the rest of the country on each online order they make, a new report has revealed.

Research by website customer tracker Qubit and seen by the Evening Standard found the average value of each online order in London is £268, compared to just over £100 for internet shoppers in the rest of the UK.

Londoners also shop more during their lunch hour compared with people outside of the capital, where the daily daytime shopping peak happens around 10am.

Graham Cooke, chief executive of London-based Qubit, said: “We all know that London is a city of shoppers and this research shows that this is as true online as it is on Oxford Street. Londoners spend more with each purchase and are more focused on their choices.”

Qubit also found online shoppers in the capital are far more likely to go straight to the retailer they are looking for, with 43% of people living in London directly visiting a website compared to 34% of non-Londoners.
