Kiwis put the fear of gold into Formica

Andrew Formica, chief executive of fund manager Henderson, was less worried about his first-half results the other day than whether the New Zealand Olympic medal tally had caught up with that of his native Australia.

And with good reason: Belarussian shot-putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk had been stripped of her gold leaving Kiwi, Valerie Adams, as the winner. Luckily for Formica, the Aussies remain firmly on top with a final tally of 35 medals against its neighbour’s 13.

Nevertheless Formica opened his presentation to analysts announcing: “Given Team GB’s performance, particularly against my home nation, I intend to travel under my British passport for the next four years.”
